CPR and Defibrillation Protocols

The 2005 Guidelines recommend sweeping changes to protocols for defibrillation and CPR.

The AHA and ERC were consistent in their recommendation to replace the traditional three-shock sequence with a single shock, to set CPR periods to 2 minutes and to eliminate any pulse check or check for signs of circulation voice prompts in an AED. Beyond these broad recommendations the Guidelines said that some prehospital providers may want to consider modifying their protocols to allow for CPR prior to first shock delivery and CPR while an AED is charging.

Challenges

  • How will you implement these new guidelines?
  • Do you have defibrillators with the flexibility to be programmed or updated to support these guidelines or the unique needs of your system?
  • Are you confident you are partnering with a company that is an innovator in the field?

Meeting the Challenges

Our software solution, known as cprMAX™ technology, was developed before the Guidelines and released to a few select customers in Europe in 2005. We're putting cprMAX technology into all of our products and trainers we sell today. This technology does more than just allow you to meet the Guidelines recommendations — it is designed with the flexibility to meet many of the unique needs of prehospital customers.

The research and development we've done to respond to the science won't stop with just meeting the Guidelines. In the near future we will add even more features to our devices that will further optimize the quality, timing, and sequencing of CPR and defibrillation.
