CPR and Defibrillation Protocols

The 2005 Guidelines recommend sweeping changes to protocols for defibrillation and CPR. For AEDs, the Guidelines recommended replacement of the traditional three-shock sequence with a single shock, a 2-minute CPR period in between shocks and elimination of any pulse check or check for signs of circulation voice prompts.

Challenges

  • How will you implement these new guidelines?
  • Do you have defibrillators with the flexibility to be programmed or updated to support these guidelines or the unique needs of your AED program?
  • Are you confident you are partnering with a company that is an innovator in the field?

Meeting the Challenges

The LIFEPAK® Heart Safe Solution is designed to support you in your efforts to provide an effective AED program. For customers with an AED program already in place, Physio-Control is there to help you with coordination of updating program AED equipment and responder training certification to reflect the new guidelines.

The new Guidelines for CPR and AED use require the software within AEDs change. We're putting our software solution, known as cprMAX™ technology, into all of the products and trainers we sell today. Appropriate voice prompts along with elimination of stacked shocks will guide rescuers to perform chest compressions and rhythm analysis appropriately.
