Training
The 2005 Guidelines emphasize that training is critical for AED programs to succeed.
Training is listed among the following elements, as recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA), for community lay rescuer AED programs :
- Planned and practiced response, typically facilitated through oversight by a healthcare provider
- Training of anticipated rescuers in CPR and use of an AED
- Integration with local emergency medical services
- Process of ongoing quality improvement
